My best to all of you

I am done blogging. I hope all 3 or 4 of you enjoyed the time we had enjoyed it. I lost sight of what I was trying to do and it cost me a bit. I have asked TH to remove this blog and we will soon part company. Thanks to all that visited here. TH is an incredible community and has incredible bloggers, you just have to take a sec to look around the TH community. It should have won the Wizbang group blog award. I wish you all the best.

Wanna hear a fool defend defeat?

John Cole is here*.

And that is where we are. Iraq is a disaster, our military is strained, the administration is drained, under assault, worried about the Libby trial, and devoid of leadership and bereft of ideas. If that wasn’t clear before the State of the Union, it sure as hell should be now. It would be premature to call the Bush Presidency dead, as we still have two years of watching them slowly rot while spreading further their cancer into the body politic. Personally, I am going to hold my nose and try to pretend it is not partially my fault we are in this mess.

He is a conservative like Andrew Sullivan is... ummm that means not at all.

* Grrrrr I hate this no embedded links thing!   http://www.balloon-juice.com/?p=7823

Just read his comments if you think he is a conservative. If someone attracts 80% leftist tards? Then he is a lefty or a Paleo isolationist.

Secret war on Iran?

Strategy page thinks so*.

The Saudis are even, secretly, cooperating with the Israelis. Iran has always been seen as a greater danger to Israel than the surrounding Sunni Arab nations. Hizbollah, which is a Lebanese Shia organization, made a name for itself during its disastrous attack on Israel last Summer. Although Hizbollah lost by every measure, they won in the arena of public opinion. Both the Israelis and Saudi Arabs (and Sunni Arabs in general) hated that.

Again sorry, embedded links are not working for me.

The Dems are going left

How do I know? Because they said so*.

CPC is eager to violate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) pledge that Democrats in Congress will focus on a mainstream agenda. Instead, the CPC can be expected to work with left-wing advocacy groups to organize attacks on corporations, “the rich,” and the Bush Administration. The CPC is not afraid to promote socialist public policies and ignore Pelosi’s promise to govern from the center.

Mosul, Iraq

Michael Yon travels to Mosul and embeds with D-company, 2/7 Calvary. General Custer’s old unit. The link is here*.

Units like the 7th Cavalry embrace inglorious parts of their history as strongly as the glorious, so long as the soldiers fought and died well. General Custer was slaughtered by Sioux Indians and their allies at the Battle of Little Big Horn, yet C-Company of 2/7 embraces Custer as one of its fathers and calls itself Comanche Company. Comanche warriors were not present at Custer’s Last Stand, but they were masters of the horse, and warriors of renown. When CSM Jeffrey Mellinger dropped me off in Mosul on the third of January after a long and dangerous Humvee journey from Baghdad, we headed straight into a nighttime mission. Before the mission started, the all-business battalion CSM James Pippin told us about the famous Garry Owen Irish marching song and how Custer’s affection for the song led to its being so closely tied to the 7th Cavalry.

Again sorry. Some problem here is preventing me from enbedding links. I am sorry.

The remainder of the Axis team up

N Korea seems to be attempting to aid the Iranian's nuclear ambitions. The N Koreans are probably Iran's second choice after the Pakistanis. Unless we do something soon, the best we can probably hope for is that the Iranian test be as big a flop a N Korea's was.

Iran got encouragement from the limp response to Kim's nuclear test last fall for expediting their own program. The North Koreans are probably the only nation that would assist Iran on developing nuclear weapons, and to give them the necessary boost that will speed up their development. Earlier estimates put a nuclear device out about 5 years for Teheran, but the Telegraph reports that the timetable has changed. Experts believe Iran could have a test-ready low-yield device within 12 months.

Another lefty wakes up.

I love a good, long and interesting political essay. Especially when it is a thinker on the left. They don't have many after all. Marc over at American Future found Nick Cohen and boy is Cohen unhappy. I don't agree with everything he is saying, but he is starting to think and it just may lead him to interesting places.

Why is it that apologies for a militant Islam which stands for everything the liberal left is against come from the liberal left? Why will students hear a leftish postmodern theorist defend the exploitation of women in traditional cultures but not a crusty conservative don? After the American and British wars in Bosnia and Kosovo against Slobodan Milosevic's ethnic cleansers, why were men and women of the left denying the existence of Serb concentration camps? As important, why did a European Union that daily announces its commitment to the liberal principles of human rights and international law do nothing as crimes against humanity took place just over its borders? Why is Palestine a cause for the liberal left, but not China, Sudan, Zimbabwe, the Congo or North Korea? Why, even in the case of Palestine, can't those who say they support the Palestinian cause tell you what type of Palestine they would like to see? After the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington why were you as likely to read that a sinister conspiracy of Jews controlled American or British foreign policy in a superior literary journal as in a neo-Nazi hate sheet? And why after the 7/7 attacks on London did leftish rather than right-wing newspapers run pieces excusing suicide bombers who were inspired by a psychopathic theology from the ultra-right?

In short, why is the world upside down? In the past conservatives made excuses for fascism because they mistakenly saw it as a continuation of their democratic rightwing ideas. Now, overwhelmingly and every where, liberals and leftists are far more likely than conservatives to excuse fascistic governments and movements, with the exception of their native far-right parties. As long as local racists are white, they have no difficulty in opposing them in a manner that would have been recognisable to the traditional left. But give them a foreign far-right movement that is anti-Western and they treat it as at best a distraction and at worst an ally.

Kerry is out.

What a crying shame.

But according to Kerry associates, the senator's plans changed dramatically in the fallout of his election-eve "botched joke" about the education levels of US troops. The harsh reaction to that incident -- from many Democrats as well as Republicans -- displayed to Kerry the extreme skepticism within his own party about whether he should mount another run.

And so the fine ladies and lads of the Armed Services got the last laugh. This is rich.

2nd Amendment and 08

David Kopel doesn't give a lot of documentation but here is his musings on the 2nd Amendment views of 08 candidates. The ones that rate highest?

Top tier. Nearly perfect pro-Second Amendment records: Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas). Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). Former Gov. Jim Gilmore (R-Vir.). Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.).

He does note that he is looking for more info and asks that links be left in the comments there.
